It look what we call Yellowtail in the U.S .

looks like a yellow tail... ours average about 30lbs.

nearly caught one that size offthe main jetty here in port lincoln, got to excited and snapped it off after about 2 min fight. the guys i was fishing with wouldn't let me live it down. there are a few around all depends on when they escape from the fish farms.

wow! nice. looks like it's related to the amberjacks we have down here. when you say "live gar", you're not talking about an alligator gar right? what does a gar look like down there?
