Hey i just bought a 3d aquarium background from yourfishstuff i installed the background after a good rinse as suggested , and i wake up to the next mourning with half of my fishes dead and the all the other half on top gasping for air , everything was fine before this. my tank was established for more than a year. I smelled the tank and it reek of the background odor (smells kinda like a new swimming pool the plastic kinds) , in the description it says Product can also be installed into already filled and inhabited tanks. I am very uphappy with this , I had very expensive fish i:(. I then Moved all the remaining fish to a separated tank where within 10 minutes they looked better , i changed 75 percent of the water and removed the background. My guess is that the background leached something toxic into the tank , But why are they selling if it isnt aquarium safe? Is there anything i can do to make it stop leaching toxins? Or maybe i have to let it cure until the odor is gone?3d.jpg

i have a powerhead pointed directly at surface of water for aeration so i dont think that can be it...i also tested water with ammonia at 0 and nitrite at 0 and ph at 8.0 . I smelled the tank right now and it still smells like the background , i put the fishes back in an hour ago and they seem to be doing fine. Im most certain it was the background. What can i do to cure it , do i just leave out for a week or soak it in water? i wouldnt want this to go to waste

That could explain the fish dying but not the smell. If you suspect the background is leaching into the water, soak it, change the water, soak and repeat. Test parameters until nothing is detected, then try the water out on something like a feeder

Good questions. What silicone did you use? If its not aquarium or pure silicone it can have anti-microbials that can leach into the water and kill just about anything that swims

I didnt use any silicone at all , the reason Why i got This background is because you dont have to silicone It , It bends and sinks , goes right into the tank. Ever since I Took the background out everything seems to be fine. Im going to Soak the background for a week and put It back in and see what happens , kinda scared tho lol

Also im not Sure what silicone the company uses to make the background but I dont see Why they would use anything but aquarium safe silicone

Go buy some cheap fish to test on.
