Does anyone know where (online or actual store) I could purchase a 3D background? BTN and Aquaterra are so expensive. I am looking for one that is a little more reasonable in terms of cost. I know I could make one on my own, but it would take a while to do properly.

fishngills.com, but they are about the same price as everyone else. if you want a 3d background, you will have to pay alot no matter where, that is if you want a quality background.

You usually can get them from most fish stores even places like Petsmart around here carry them

^^^^ sorry thats the site i got mine from (gillsnfins.com):nilly:

Best ones we have over here are "Back to nature", but also most expensive ones.

An example from their site:

This one (7'x2') costs around 1000$ without the sides :WHOA:

I would only spend this much money if 1) you are already spending way more than what the background costs, or 2) You're willing to do it right. The background won't look nice if you half-butt (for lack of a better/appropriate word). And also, my third, off the chart one for myself is only get it if the tank is large enough. There's no sense getting it for a 10 gallon, at least in my head, but if you have the money, I don't see why not. Try your hands at DIY with an old 10 gallon, you might just have a knack for it.

I would be using this for a 125 gallon African Peacock tank. I had thought about doing one myself but styro is kind of thick and would take up several (20 or so)gallons of water (dead space). I do like the aquaterra BG's as you can add filter media behind them, and they are cheaper than BTN. I guess if I want my tank to look really good, the price will be worth it. I did see a DIY project from someone (don't remember where) who made their BG out of fiberglass resin. They made a tree trunk for a corner tank, but it looked difficult and very time consuming. It would be really great if Top Fin or someone else would begin to mass produce these. That would force BTN and Aquaterra to reduce their prices as they would no longer hold the market. Hey wait a minute...isn't that a monopoly of sorts. Just kidding.
