I started working on the 3D background for my 6 foot 150 gallon tank today.

It is made from an 8x4' sheet of 1/2" extruded polystyrene insulation, hot glue, and a razor blade.

Thicker areas will be added with great stuff expanding foam, and then it will be coated with drylok, which I will probably tint with some concrete dye.

I'll throw some sand on some of it, while you can see I made some branches as well.

Sounds great but I'm concerned that the expanding foam stuff is fish safe. Did you ready somewhere about someone else using this product with successful results or are you experimenting on your own? I'm looking forward to following your proigress.

Great stuff is the brand of 'expanding foam'. I think its the only brand i've ever seen. And as for being "proven fish safe" I mean I and others have used it in tanks for extended periods of time with no harmful effects on the fish. Once it cures its inert.

Cool! Good to know. Just out of curiosity, what does an "extended period of time"? I just know for some that means 2 months, others its 2 years, and others it 15 years....

i realy want to see how this comes out
