Hi MFKers, I'm a new member of MFK.

I currently have a 3ft tank with a water volume of approximately 40 US gallon, housed with one 1.5' Male GT. The filtration system is provided by aquaclear 110 and aquaclear 70.

Being a cichlid newbie, I was just wondering whether adding convict cichlid as tankmate be possible. I've heard wide range of opinions and experiences from many variety sources over the internet. And i wish to settle this once in for all :nilly:. I understand that there would be aggression problems at times, but are these aggression a major concern for the fish well-being?? provided with adequate hiding places

Suggestions and advices are more then welcome :)
Thank you,

Is that GT 1.5' or 1.5"??? A 3ft tank will only house a single GT for life. Even that's pushing the limits already.

i'm thinking you can get away w/ one female GT at 40 gallons, so adding a convict might not be in your best interest. a couple of convicts and or firemouths might be a better idea.

tankmates will most likely get beaten but your over looking the size of your fish a GT needs a 55 and a male needs a 75 your dealing with a fish that can get 13'' count on your fish getting 10'' at least it wouldn't be very happy in a 40 gallon and defenatily wouldn't have tankmates when an adult

I think 13" is exaggerating their size. I kept a male for over 8 years that was only 10" when it died.
