jus move it around n try different things. even if he tears up krill now, mix it up. my lei tore up krill at first. then didnt eat for like 5 days. kept tryin krill and nope. so i tried pellets, nope. moved on to market shrimp n he tore it up. fed pellets to every other fish in the tank and bam he's on pellets now. toss in some krill and he's all over it. now i got my variety

water changes like crazy! Keep the water 100%!!!! I feed them blood worms and tiny gut loaded crickets and little pieces of FD krill. After feeding, vac ANY leftover food and keeping the lights off is a good idea too. I actually don't have any lights on my baby silver tank, but it gets some natural light from a big window.

from what ive read you are supposed to always have some form of light on a silvers tank. even at night. it is supposed to help keep them fom getting freaked out.

Why wouldn't you want any light? Aros are top water fish, so they are going to see day light in the wild, it's not like a bottom dwelling cat that might live in deep water that might hardly see much light ever... jmo plus i've noticed a full spectrum light helps brighten colors...

They get a good amount of daylight and moonlight for that matter because they are near a 8'x2' window. Just no artificial light yet. I haven't noticed any odd behavior from them, and they are very calm when I'm working on their tank. They're also in a very non-traveled part of the house, so they don't see people very often and they still don't freak when I come in the room. Now my bigger silver on the other hand who does have light 24/7 does freak whenever I mess around the tank, and I do that quite often and he still hasn't got used to me.

Yes, they are top water fish, but the areas they inhabit are also fairly shaded by the canopy. I honestly feel that the lights are a main contributor to DE. It explains why in Asia, putting them in ponds causes the DE to go away. Diffused light vs direct intense light.

i think arowanas are just nuts no matter what light you use. mine is a freakin spaz.
i dont think lighting has anything to do w/ DE though. that is just my opinion though.

LOL! thanks. alot of people have said this. hes not quite as dark as he used to be. i think alot of this has to do w/ stress though. we are on the right track to getting him better though.

thanks again :D

One question... possible to train them to accept pellet at this size of 4 inches? Probably starve them abit and keep introducing pellets?

you never want to starve a fish at that size. just start offering pellets in w/ the krill or whatever it likes. if they are too hard for the fish soak them in water then place them in the tank or break them up.

to tell the truth i wouldnt feed cricket to an aro smaller than 6inch as i feel the legs are to sharp for a 3inch aros gut to handle

you have to remember at 3inch the aro has only been without the yoke for a few days/weeks

its like giving a baby big mac and fries they may have troble digesting things like crickets

best to keep a 3inch aro on blood or black worm

a aro that size should be fed small amounts twice per day

a 3inch aro fasting for 2-3 days is not good
