3'x1' stocking "Peaceful Tank" help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My LFS has a Pink tail Chalceus, so I think I'm going to get it along with some congo tetras, and maybe some cory cats.
First I'm going to plant the aquarium though.

How about a group of colorful plecos like L046 or L134 on the bottom and a mix of rummynose and cardinal tetras for the upper levels?

Thanks for the suggestions.
The L134 have very nice color.

Screw goldfish

What i would do for sure is start with a sand bottom with a few medium size rocks (2''-3'') lying around then a nice piece of driftwood in the middle and plant the tank nicely

Stocking would be a few dwarf cichlids Go with Apistos, Rams or a few of the many small Acharas all with lots of color and personality Rams do tend to be more shy and layed back though

For movement Go with a nice shoal of Colorful tetras and/or barbs theres a tetra or barb to suit everyones taste i like Congo tetras, red line barbs a pearl gourami or two wouldn't look bad ether

Finish it all of with a nice group of loaches or you could add a little catfish or two mabye or a pleco if you like

Those are great fish but get semi large around 8''-10'' so they might out grow that tank and they are predatory so don't keep them with congo tetras unless there adults even then a large Chalceus 7''+ could take down a congo tetra if it got hungry enough Large corys might be safe as they stay on the bottom and the Chalceus on the top but still its risky

I know the Chalceus would get bigger, but I thought I would try it out.
At the LFS its kept in a tank with silver dollars, plecos, loaches, cories, and a mix of other things.

Like you said, it could be risky.
The tank already has a gravel substrate with medium river rocks covering it.
I'm going to get some java fern for ground cover, and then try and plant some java moss on a piece of driftwood. I already have some elodea floating in the top of the tank as I have excess from my turtles set-up and it grows quick and easy.

I'd like a group of clown loaches, but wouldn't they get too large?
I know it would take a while for them to grow large, but it could happen.
