4' 90 Gallon converted to 240 4' Square Plywood and Glass Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
xdragon, I say this in the most hetero way possible, I LOVE YOU MAN! I'll be calling the Texas location Monday morning!

Haha, umm, NOLAGT I'm sure you'd only "clear" out the good stuff, so no thanks bro.

Rain held off, so here's the progress from today.

I lied about making 3 tanks; I'm actually making 4. Two 24" with the glass from the 90 and two with the 19" pieces the guy that I bought the 2 75s and 65 from gave me, so it's actually 4 tanks.

Enjoy the pictures and feel free to ask questions.

Each tank has 8 3" deck screws and 6 2" deck screws so far.

Lumber used:

2 - 4' x 8' 3/4" plywood
10 - 8' 2x3s

Lmao, glad i could help, tell me what was the cost.

i never been to NOLA but when i do, im gonna make sure i drop by to check out your setup. if u dont mind

^^^
oops, i forgot i was on my freinds computer.

So u just screwed the fram, You didnt even need to glue it?

So for the smaller end pieces of glass. Mine are 17x24 we don't frame them on the inside of the tank? I am thinking of turning mine sideways so the viewing area would be approximate 12X 20. 20 inches being the long way and not up and down if that makes sense. I dismantled my tank yesterday. I am wondering if they were framed on the inside would they be stronger and might look better when you look through the front of the tank. I wish i didn't suck so much on the computer so i could do my design like you have then it would be easier to explain.

Aweome Pete....you really have a good idea here...weather someone has done it before or not I thank you because I really look at my 125's differently now...I want to expand them so badly lol. When I finish up some other open projects...I'm not starting anything new untill I finish a few things.

I haven't given it much thought, but I'd most likely either run a 2x3 horizontally across the outside instead of vertically as shown in http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3747928&postcount=13

or

move the center vertical over to one side and add another vertical with a small horizontal piece in between.

In any case, those are screwed from the inside through the plywood with 2" deck screws with liquid nails between the 2x3 and plywood.

Yeah, 72"x48" 300s are sexy

so if I am reading this correctly, I can use my old 90g tank and install the glass into a 10'x4'x24" tank and the glass will hold??
