Just got home to my Goliath African tiger fish floating .I got the fish from Wes about 3 weeks ago ,a perfect fish . It has been eating like a horse and is relatively tame now . It was floating upside down not a mark on it or a scale missing . water quality is perfect even the oxygen content. plenty of current and no fish in the tank other than it has anything wrong with it.There is also a U/V sterilization unit on the tank as well. Guess it ran into the wall.??? Have kept Hydrocynus sp. since the early 19 nineties and this is the first one that has ever died on me for no apparent reason. I just don't understand it . The lights were off and nothing to spook it.Well, Wes I guess I need another GATF with perfect jaw structure from you if you've still got any more. Dang this sucks. Not knowing is worse than watching it get bit in half it seems like. Thanks for letting me vent. Any ideas people. I have the best equipment money can buy and then some.Twenty plus years of experience with the genus. Also no live food from me. Frozen or pellets. Ate like a hog last night. Better than ever. I just wanna cry. Zach

check down pipe, did it overstuff itself and wasn't able to digest? I've seen where they like a hog and essentially died

Possibly over eating. The food was being digested though. No one was home and all the lights were out. I guess I will never know. It was fine. Now not so fine. I made it into a mummy gatf with salt. Gonna put it on my key ring . Lol.

Did you check your temps? Heater malfunction? Stray voltage in the tank? Swallowed substrate?

Sorry for your loss!

Doubt you felt it in tn, but there was an earthquake in ga last night. Spooked me and my fish, maybe it spooked him?

Unfortunately, I lost one to overfeeding and there was a thread here a few yrs back where another one experienced the same fate. I thought the same thing too.
Anyone here see the episode on Rivermonsters where an Armatus was choking on a smaller half digested armatus? it would have died if it wasn't pulled out of its mouth.

Checked temperature and everything possibly related to water chemistry. Didn't choke. Food was being digested. Just don't know. Oh well.

Sorry for your loss, I had a goliath die for no reason as well a little while back. Same thing ate great the prior night, woke up and dead not a scale missing as well. I remember rob saying something about having a night light on his ATF tanks. Sorry for your loss bro.
