A giant gourami violently killing things? I thought they were vegetarian when they get big... House of tropics in MD feeds their 15 year old one brussel sprouts...

Furious - oh yes.
Just because they are mainly vegetarian doesn't mean they are not aggressive. Once they hit 6-8 inches, they often kill / eat everything else in the tank. Mine did - and mine is a girl. And this is not unusual for them.
