One of my 36" coralife fixtures went out on my 125. I don't have a canopy and the aquarium i in my living room so aesthetics of the fixtures is important. If I can't find a matching fixture I'm considering a single 4' fixture that will sit on the glass. Can anyone share pics of how a 4' fixture sitting on glass lids lights their 6' tank?

why not just get a 6' fixture? they are expensive but it might look better

I have seen 4 foot fixtures on 6 foot tanks and it doesn't look that great unless you have a very bright one (like T5 High Outputs etc) and suspend it above the tank.

just having it sit on the glass has the ends way too dark. its very noticable.

I would go with 2 36" fixtures. thats what I have on my 6 foot 150g.

that's what my concern was, thanks

I have a 4' light fixture on my 6' tank and I keep it in the middle of the tank and it makes the two sides darker...its kinda cool but IMO, its not enough light so I'm looking to get another 36" or 48" light fixture

I do this intentionally. I think the lighting effect is very cool when it's dark on far sides. I keep fish that sometimes need to get away from males so a shaded retreat is a good thing. When the sides of a tank are dark, the tank has depth that (in person) you almost can't tell how wide it is. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

bbortko, this is a 6' tank with a 4' light and NOT T5HO or anything (you asked for pics so here you are sir :) ).

I agree with JK, gives the tank more dimension. Below is a 6 foot 150g with a double T8 four foot fixture. Sorry don't have night time pic so the whole tank looks bright.

My 450g 8 foot tank is only lit with a single 250 watt MH. Love the bright in the middle dark on the sides look.

Tired to get the same effect with my 110g five footer by using a 3 foot fluoresent along with the two stock 30" lights. In person there is a visable difference being brighter in the middle, but doesn't show well in the pic

A couple pics of my old 5 foot 120g first with a centered single tube 4' fluoresent and second with a 260 watt 4' pcf fixture offset to the right, so left 12" of the tank is unlit.

Thanks for the pics everyone. I like the way the tank transitions darker on the the edges creating a focal point in the center.
