4' light on 6' tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the other thing to keep in mind is that the colour of the substrate makes a big difference in how much light you need.

I agree, the tanks on here all look great with just the 48" in the middle, but they all have light (light brown) substrates that do reflect a lot of light back up. a really dark substrate like black gravle or eco complete etc. darkens the tank quite a bit

my 150g has black gravel, which makes it darker. here is what it lookes like with twin 36" double T8 fixtures (using hagen powerglo bulbs)

I think if I were to try it, the ends would be fairly dark at the ends, which is you like the effect, is fine of course.:

I agree with JK, gives the tank more dimension. Below is a 6 foot 150g with a double T8 four foot fixture. Sorry don't have night time pic so the whole tank looks bright.

My 450g 8 foot tank is only lit with a single 250 watt MH. Love the bright in the middle dark on the sides look.

Tired to get the same effect with my 110g five footer by using a 3 foot fluoresent along with the two stock 30" lights. In person there is a visable difference being brighter in the middle, but doesn't show well in the pic

Wow nice tank. Where did you buy that driftwood with the plants in the 110? I need to buy some driftwood for my new 120 gallon tank and I love the look of that.

Thanks, there are two pieces of driftwood and 12-15 separate plants anchored to the driftwood with fishing line. The driftwood was purchased at a couple different LFS. The plants have all been growing from a couple that I got 5 years ago. Actually these are them in the pic below(in the fore gound of the two big amazon swords). That bigger piece of driftwood is the same one on the left side of the 110g also.

All your tanks are very nice Brian! This one is absolutly bad ass.. Plants and I agree to disagree but I think I could manage something like this. Are you dosing or doing anything special for the plants?

Thanks. Anubis is pretty easy, doesn't require alot of light or any Co2 injection. Does seem to grow better when the roots are not burried in gravel
