40 breeder Cichlid Stocking

If the BP and OB get along, I'd just leave them in there as the cichlids. Hard to get two cichlids to get along in a small tank, I think you've got lucky with the mix.
For dithers, here are some options:
Swordtails
Ameca splendens/goodeids
Flagfish
Tetras (Colombian, Buenos aires, etc any taller bodied tetra)

For bottom dwellers, large cory catfish would work or maybe zebra botias.

First thing about mixing different type of fish, you would have to understand the living conditions of each fish first. Pic's would be nice if you can upload some. Then you have to think about the maximum size of the fish you have. If they were small you could start out in a smaller tank then upgrade. Trust me in the right living conditions, you still might get away with what you have atm. The last thing you want to do is make the situation worst by add different fish. If those two have been established you might create a problem, between the two with new faces. Sometime we don't know until trial and error.

They look like they would do fine for some time. I thought the parrot was way bigger than that. Like the rocky look with those spaced out plants. Substrate and the rocks blend really well together. Like someone stated in this thread a few swordtails or tetras would do fine. A good thing about a 40 breeder is the width. More then enough room at this point.

Do you think a school of 6 Columbian tetras, 6 black skirt tetras, and 6 Buenos Aires tetras would be good

No It would smart to go with just one species maybe 6-10 of the Columbians. Buenos aires Tetras in small schools for me always ending up killing each other. I always ended up with one left.
 
I was thinking along the lines of keeping the color of movement in the tank close. Large orange or koi swordtails would look amazing in that tank.
