Set up a 40 breeder in the bedroom. I planned on using it as a grow out tank, but the wife said she'd like to upgrade from her 20.

Trying to figure out what to stock it with, I was thinking Festivums and something, but not certain.

Pretty much open to anything, I think my wife would enjoy a larger school of small fish. Generally she likes dark/black fish that are active.

Hopefully the picture shows lol, thanks for any help

school of 6-8 lamp-eye tetras and a small school of maybe 4-5 spotted pictus cats maybe? would definitely always be active that'd never be an issue

The pictus would be too big for that tank?

Also keep in mind the lay out of that tank is pretty much how it's going to be lol.

My wife likes to call the tank in the bedroom 'her' tank so she chooses the substrate and layout of fake plants/decoration. Somewhat of a say on the fish that go in it. I just have to pay for the tank/filtration and take care of all the maintenance :D

eh, spotted pictus that they sell at most fish stores only get like 5-6" it's the lined ones and another strain with a different spot pattern that get big - i'd think the regular ones would be fine with a 40 breeder's footprint

^^ jackin my idea and adding a convict??? ;) hahaha

honestly though 2-3 pictus a school of the tetras and MAYBE a convict could be good - or instead of the convict get a blue gold or opaline gourami to give a little bit of color and avoid the possibility of the convict going crazy and attacking everything

come on!! (i also added lampeye tetra:D) convict female has tons of personality, arent as aggro and besides my convict female and male doesnt bother about my minnow fish either. Plus they drop infertile eggs once in a while that ur lamp eye tetra can dine on.!!
