= one sick tank!

Well the wife shot down the pictus cats already... not sure why but she doesn't like my fascination with loaches/catfish lol Black Skirt Tetra are out, as well as the lamp eye =/

Altho she does enjoy my clowns.

Guess she's looking for a more active mid to top level schooling fish. Going to look into some smaller rainbows maybe. More suggestions appreciated =D

What does she think about Hatchets? I've kept both Marbled and Silver, and found they are fairly active and school well.

You'd need to add something mid water though...

I give up :nilly:

How do you think I feel lol

I pay for the fish/maintenance + do the 2 hour drive (one way) to pick up the fish, and I get little say in what goes in that tank. Other than if something is compatible or not...

I think I'm pretty down to either a Festivum, Keyhole, or EB Ram pair for the showy fish.

Festivum and keyholes look best and show their best personality in small groups. If you can swing it, get six juveniles and raise them up. Both are very rewarding fish to spawn.

Some very cool tetras are Black Phantoms. The males have large black fins and when you have a large group they spend all day stretching their fins at eachother showing off to females. Would add some neat character to your tank.

You can do a shoal (6+) of showy corydoras like C.sterbai or C.panda. I think the pictus might be too active for the very shy keyholes. Might make em nervous. I've kept them with cories though and it worked great. Festies could go with whatever, they're a tad more aggressive.

Ultimately it's up to you (your wife), but make sure you write out your stocking plan on paper first. I'm guilty for this as well but most people don't have a set plan and often impulse buy other fish and before you know it, you have a tank full of mix matches. Just my 2 cents.

8 tiger barbs & a breeding pair of convicts. With 40 gallons the barbs might make it through convicts spawn/parenting behavior....
