why build such a tank? with 280 gal water volume,you can choose a 8 feet length tank.

Why? Because everyone has long tanks, not everyone has cubes! Nah not really, more so it's this space i have that can be filled. I'm debating on going 4-8" bigger but still cubic in shape. It's just a "try and build a fish tank" project that i hope to do around the end of the year.

Just bouncing around ideas for potential stocking

I still think the footprint of the tank is not ideal for the large Central Americans that you are looking for. While the depth of the tank will add volume, there still isn't a lot of space for large fish to set up territories. Just my opinion, but I think a tank of those dimensions is better suited for a rift lake set up.
