40 gal set up

Gonna pick up a 40 gal today good deal. Comes with tank, stand, and lights. Plan on putting a small Jd in maybe try my luck with ebjd. I am a a month or two away from getting the 150 gal but wanted to set this one up in sons room. What filter should I go with wanna get everything set up tonight and start cycling. Also let me know if I left anything out.

A single ac 110..or an ac70 + a sponge filter..would be MY preference ...but for canister how about an API xp L...(OLD XP3 ... amazon $105).......... HEATER: I like top fin heaters...100 or 150 w....(petsmart)...they are guaranteed for life (buy 1 save the receipt..your done buying heaters for that tank)...substrate pool filter sand and pea gravel mix....python ,check.....test kit,API...

I wish you good luck with this tank. It's weird that today I just posted I'm getting a 55 more than likely for a great deal (free) as I'm waiting for my 180 (which I'm getting September 2015). Hope your tank does well bro and pm me if you decide you want a cat in your 40.

I'd suggest a 406 myself.. but if its lightly stocked a sponge filter may be all you need. I have a 40b with my festae growouts just with a sponge filter. BUT.. if its in a bedroom.. go 406/405

I ended up just getting an ac110 I was really pressed for time figured what the hell can always use it in the bigger tank. There wasn't many other options at the lfs
