Well, I was out and about one day and found a piece of 1/4" mirror 96"x40". Need a new sump b/c my first build just isn't holding up or doing the job I need it to.
Mirror was attached to a wall with some kind of black ma'amee stuff. Stiff as could be, wouldn't come off with a razor or chisel. Took the propane torch, heated it up and scraped it off. Worked pretty good.
Measured off my first piece and cut.
That sucked
Very not happy, and a few choice words later.
Success
Smoothed out the sharp edges with a diamond hone, just a few quick swipes and ready to handle.
Had to get the grey backing off, so I went to HD and picked out what looked to be some good stripper. Used as directed and worked ok. My advise would be to use a really thick coat and let soak 45-60 min. At the 15-30 min, I had to scrape a fair amount off with a razor, once again, that sucked.
Wasn't sure how I was gonna remove the silvering. Looked into the MSR that is advertised online but didn't want to pay the price. Went to TSC and picked this up.
Used a funnel to prevent any spills and splashes.
Spread it out with a paper towel.
When it goes on, the copper is showing.
Then turns to the silver.
Then just about goes away. All this only took about 5 min.
Just wiped off with a paper towel.

Just sprayed the acid off with water. Just a heads up. This stuff is very caustic. The fumes will take you breath away. Burns your nose and lungs. As you can see, I did it in the garage, bad move. Even with door and window open and a fan running, I still found that some of my tools rusted the next day, tools that weren't used on this job.

Clean, clear glass.
Leak Test.
Layed out my design.

Attached a piece of glass to act as a ledge, one on each side. Gonna have my scrubbies "floating" in the air, above the water.

Used VHS tapes as spacers to hold everything in place.

More to come later. I am further along, but have not taken any pics yet. Still in the process of making the shelf for my socks and inlet. Gonna be made out of 1/4" plex bent and drilled.
