Like what other options? He said he wanted to keep something on the tank for life.
I think that the reason he got cichlid suggestions is simply because the majority of the people who responded to his question were cichlid keepers.
I myself suggested something along the lines of what I am doing now in the same tank. Because that is what appeals to me.
I guess we could say exodon's or something of that nature, like is listed in do many other threads. I didn't though, because to me they are only dithers.
I myself think in a tank that size with a cichlid pair in the 3 to 6 inch range would be very interesting. You would he able to watch mating rituals as well as see them raise fry; which could be used as feeders or trade in at a lfs. Also, depending on the size of the fish the op gets, they may have room for some dithers and maybe a small pleco or something else.
I didn't however want to suggest the dithers or other fish that I would stock to avoid completely laying out the op's tank for them.
