Hey guys, I found a home for my overly aggressive cichlids. I am now wanting to do a beta sorority tank with some females. With my 40 gallon how many females can I do?

Will this be a planted tank?
I was planning on getting some of those ideas too. I have artificial plants and decorations right now with some moss balls.
What plants would accommodate the bettas? Or would artificial work?637676C6-51E6-4FDA-BD7B-86CE029D4423.jpeg

java fern is always good so is anubias brazillian pennywort is a great stem to leave floating. those decorations/boxes are pretty nifty though. i like em

I don't have any advice on a betta sorority, but I am into easy plants. Some that work well for me in low tech planted tanks with good lighting, and little to no ferts, are dwarf sagitarria, rotala indica, crypt wendtii, and hornwort as a floater. Obviously anubias and java fern are great but are very slow growers so I would use them in combo with some fast growers as well for nitrate consumption. The sagitarria and rotala love my black sand also, and spread much better through it compared to my eco complete.
