40 micron filtration and never clean another filter sock ever again

Work has had the 300g on the back burner last few weeks.


Drum filters have been around for decades, but this is the first time I've seen someone build a "small" unit. Usually they are 4' cubed all the way up to the size of a school bus.

Actually it's smaller than the sump I had planned, so I dont think it will take much to incorporate it. I just found these this week doing some research for my koi pond. Water clarity just isnt there yet. Going to install on these on the pond as well. Probably the bigger KC 30.

Also found a really cool pre-pump sieve filter. Sieve filters usually have to run in gravity flow mode, but this guy came up with a way to enclose it and make it work under a vacuum suction from the pump. 250 micron screen filter that will never clog due to it's parabolic shape.

Yeah the curved sieve pre-filters are a great idea, I've seen something similar called a "cetus sieve" and was looking to try DIY one for my current set up but struggled to find suitable mesh here. You guys are lucky to be able to get cool stuff like that off the shelf, even if it is rather pricey!

The Zakki Sieve is a really nice product Zak put together. Great alternative for those who cant gravity feed a sieve from a bottom drain.
Some of the guys over on koiphen are pretty darn good engineers.

Perfect to pickup waste before it gets blended up into tiny particles by the pump impeller.

You dont want to use stainless steel mesh screen on cetus sieve. You have to use stuff called "wedgewire". Standard woven mesh would clog in no time flat. Pretty custom stuff, but widely used in industrial applications.

Ray poo is different then normal fish poo. Gives bead filters hell. Wonder if it would do the same to a drum?

Sure would be nice to be able to afford to find out..... lol.
