Here goes my 3rd plywood build. But will by my first with pond shield.
Tank is 400 gallons 66x48x30 inside dems. Viewing window is 5'x28
I will post as I get progress but won't be getting on much to check my post because I already know how I plan to build this. Suggestions will be nice but I don't like to stray much from my plans haha.
As for now I have the box built and just poly resin and drywall taped the corners for strength 3 coats.

This must be a sign if im already having to eat my own words but I just did alot of reading and I maybe looking into max acr to seal the tank....... I guess I will be straying from the plans? Does anyone have any input on this epoxy? Will I need to finish fiberglassing the whole tank before putting the ACR on the top of the poly resin?

can i ask why your not going with the pond shield? and how are you planning to secure the viewing window? ill be building my first plywood soon but its going to be a biggie. ill be going with 2 viewing windows and tank will be 12 feet long. any suggestions? your build looks pretty good so far

I may put a viewing window in the side of this as well but im not sure if want it or not. I wanted to go with a fiberglass epoxy from the start but never could find one that I wanted. I think the pond armor would work fine but I just wanted the epoxy. I want this tank to be a show tank so I will be painting the inside and outside with the epoxy. As for the viewing window GE silicone I should do the trick. I left enough room for 3/4 of an inch overlap between glass and wood

how would you expect drywall net tape to be strong enough to hold? not to mention the hole in the tape too big. fiber glass cloth is your only option and should cover your whole tank with it.

Its held just fine on my last two tanks that had only rubber to hold it together. I have 3 layers of the tape with resin. it will be fine

I don't know if anyone is following this thread with out picts.
But I just got done fiberglassing the front of the tank and seams for a final coat. My epoxy is on the way (it got to the nearest big city Saturday @2am and didn't get sent out so I wont get it till Tuesday because of the holiday) I have a 4 day weekend so if time is on my side I hope to have the stand built and atleast 5-6 coats of max ACR on the tank by thursday.
Does anyone know if I have to let the epoxy cure a full 3 days to before I silicone the glass in.?

I would wait the 72 hrs to let it cure. Having to wait longer on finishing mine as well, but patience is a virtue on these things. Anywhoo i was actually surprised at how long it took the acr to start gelling up, but super easy to work with. Best of luck w your build :)

That's a bummer but better safe than sorry I guess? Did you do your multiple layers while it was tacky or did you let it fully cure then sand it down?
