405 or Fx5?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would go with the fx5.It's like when you buy a tank and get it home and then go damn i should have got the bigger one.:D

yeah got my answer! I should have known the people on a monster fish site would go big! Fx5 it is. Next question, i want to set it up on the smaller tank so i can move it pre conditioned onto the new tank. the smaller tank being a 47G. my guess is there will be heaps of water movement, is there a way you can slow it down without burning the motor out? or should i just move the filter i already have on the 47 to the new tank and forget about tying to get the fx5 cycled? Now back to saving cash. pain.

I'd either run them side-by-side on the new tank until you're confident the FX5 is on-stream (I've just done this). Or chuck the old filter's media in the FX5.

Yes, the Fx5 has variable flow control valves called "Aqua Stop" valves. They are designed for you to control the flow. I have my Fx5 on a 55 gallon but I have the flow around 60% most of the time.

The rate tank value means nothing.

I'm not sure they're really meant to be used like that...

Look at the hash marks on the valves. Also look in the manual, it specifically tells you to use them to vary the flow. All Fluval filters offer this feature
