I'm about to have to have a precious rat put down due to cancer, and I'm really sad.

Mona wasn't an overly cuddly rat, but she was kind and clever. You could practically see sarcasm pour out of her eyes when she thought you were doing something stupid. She would be three years old in July. She leaves behind piles of chewed up boxes, and a place in my heart.

is always sad to lose any pet that we care about. Just gotta try to keep positive and realize theyre lives with us were probably a lot better than the alternative.

sorry to hear. i had two rats when i was growing up as a kid. most people dont realize how cool of a pet rats can be.

Thanks for the kind words y'all. It turned out she had lymph node cancer, and was bleeding from her eyes and nose from an extreme drop in blood pressure. They put her down really nicely - they knocked her out with gas first, then used the shot so she wouldn't feel anything. They also gave me a box with her name and a heart drawn on it for her burial. She's in the garden now next to her friend and two rose bushes.
