40g breeder mbuna stock help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You could try a pleco like a bristlenose, or an armored Raphael cat. They usually work well with cichlids, but with breeding convicts, all bets are off. So I would give it a shot only if you have another tank you can plop them in if the convicts seem to want them dead.

Also my tank still seems to have some salinity left so should it be completely zero or is it okay to have a tiny bit?

I would do ps. Saulosi. They stay small, aren't overly aggressive and you get 2 different colors with the males and females. As long as you don't end up with a really aggressive male you could probably do 3m/9f. I wouldn't pick demasoni if you're just getting into mbuna.

Welp i caved in i really wanted an mbuna tank like before and 40 gallon isnt helping much so im buying a 125 this weekend i know its still small but its a start lol i can always use the 40 to raise the fry i suppose

What if i have 5 yellow labs
5 kenyi
5 undecided african
1 bristlenose pleco
And 1 senegal birchir
I would vote away from putting either of the pleco or bichir in with mbuna. Mbuna tend to pick at any larger fish such as the bichir, and i never have had luck with plecos in mbuna tanks either, due to the same reason. If your set on mbuna i would recommend a smaller species of synodontis, or some of the more aggressive loach species. As far as a hob to recommend, go with the aquaclear 110 as someone prior stated
