Hey guys, I bought a 40 gal breeder a while back and I have just began researching what I want in It. I have decided that I think the most interesting would be some type of predatory fish. The ones I have looked at are barracuda hujeta, a shoal of bucktooth tetras (between 10 and 15), needle nose gar, red fin wolf fish, leaf fish, and maybe datnoids. The problem I have been having is discrepancies on minimum tank req, everywhere has a different opinion and It left me pretty confused. So I came here. Which; if any, of these fish can fit in this tank and if any of you have an my other options please let me know! Thanks!!!

*Hujeta Gar and Datnoids is out of your fish list to keep in 40B (unless you're planning to upgrade 150G in future).
*A shoal of Exodon can be fun but you won't able to keep them with any fish species that has scale on them (scaleless fish are fine but too small will become food for Exodon).
*Leaf Fish is fine but they are stealth ambush fish and required planted tank to do their best.
*Red wolf (Erythrinus erythrinus) will be fine but will eat anything fit in its mouth.

Out of your list the only fish I think is appropriate for a 40 breeder is the the lead fish. Long term, that is.
Of coarse you could put 3 peacock bass in there for a very limited time.

Thank you for the insight! I am well aware of those exodons as their pesky habit of scale eating.
every fish youve listed besides the leaf fish, will need a bigger tank sooner than later. That includes pbass.
The small freshwater puffer fish always make fascinating smaller predators, not massively colourful or active (unless being fed) but very interactive an personable. My hairy puffer was one of the most enjoyable fish I ever owned.
