40gal - somewhat planted tank, re-stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm a little confused as to what you're suggesting here, sorry it's late and I'm tired.

I'm fairly dead set on this HRP now, assuming I can get one in with my LFS supplier; but I'll try.

A HRP and an Earth Eater would be nice, but I'm not sure if you're suggesting all three. I wonder if that'd be a bit overstocked, or would it be fine?

Thanks in advance.

I think an HRP, an eartheater and a cryptoheros nanoluteus all together would be a good combination. They all stay fairly small (assuming you get a smaller eartheater species), and from what I've read none of them are overly aggressive.

I think that'd be a great mix of fish, I'll have to think about the earth eater as I have a planted tank, and, well, you know. Earth Eater.

Thank you for all your help, Aromantis! Hopefully my LFS will have be able to order some of these.

No problem, to tell you the truth considering I don't have room for any of these fish myself it almost gives me some sick, sick, pleasure to watch you stock your tank with them. LOL. Well good luck, and if you can't get any of these fish at you lfs (which wouldn't surprise me), don't forget about the online vendors. They can usually get the fish you want AND at a better quality. So, once again, good luck, and keep us posted with any updates!

You could always go with a pair of HRP's. I have a pair that are great parents, and they are no so available, so there may be a market for the offspring. They are almost as easy as cons to breed, and watching them raise their young has been enjoyable. Mine spawn about once a month, but I just leave the fry in the tank and they slowly become fish food for the rest of the fish in the tank.

if you have plants even a lil.. be aware that sev and some other cichlid LOVE to dig them out and destroy them... I just put in Java Moss in my 29 last night to see if my sev will ignore them and this morning I woke up and the tank looks like it wen't through a war with java moss all over the place and my sevs rippin them out of the rock... so choose one that wont do that much harm...

ken Davis has got beutiful f1 hrp's rio monga (the variant is a little more aggro then others) but not bad
