oh if you're doing that, get 1/4 to 1/2 inch cause the 1/8 won't screw into very well. and can't hold up a door.

that makes sense, thanks guys. i might be able to put 1/8 for everywhere but the front, then use 1/2 in. for the front and the shelves. would that look ugly? but keep in mind that this is IF i cover it and put in shelves and doors.

i was wondering if you guys thought it would hold up 370 pounds?

anyone?

This is just my opinion, I'm not a professional and have very little experience with building stuff meant for heavy loads.

I'd use 1/2 or thicker to wrap the whole thing, your stand isn't built in a way that keeps it upright from horizontal forces, so wrapping it with a thick plywood (and using alot of screws) should help.

Also, the vertical supports, is the top resting directly on them or are the screws holding all the weight? Screws like to break from sheer stress, if the tank sat on trim that sat directly on the supports it would be a lot safer.

like i said, im not sure if im gonna wrap it in plywood any way, but if i do, ill probably use thick plywood. im sorry, im not sure if i understand you, do you mean by vertical supports as in the 2X4s that are in the middle of the top and bottom rectangular frame? i think that most of the weight will be on the wood, not the screws. also, i didnt just screw the top plywood piece on the corners, the plywood is screwes to every piece of wood on the top frame.
