The first one was broken where the impellar housing is attached to the body of the filter...completely shattered. The second one had a dollar bill sized piece broken out of the top of the area where the media basket sits. I dont know if it was how the packages were handled or what, but its frustrating as I made the order a month ago and NEEDED the filters, lol.

how did they go about fixing your problem?
 
The filter comes with a return label pre-printed for you to send it back. They have great customer service, but 2 broken filters in a row don't help my underfiltered tank.
 
I just back ordered one for the 33$ and used the $5 off any order too !!! what a deal !!!!
