450 Gallon Build!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Was trying to think how to make my filtration better the sump as not been build yet but what else could add???
Any Ideas?

Subscribed! Love this build thanks for posting.

Sump: You have one extra baffle on the right side. For the right set of baffles water needs to go down then up and that's it, the last baffle should be removed. I just modified an old used 55 to make a sump. Your will be bigger but the same.

Pics: First few are the build. Water comes into a filter sock on the right, travels down then up through two baffles. Then goes into a large bio ball area then goes down then up again to the pump return and trickle system drain.

Last pic is another sump I put in for an example of the pump return and trickle drain. All my sumps are the same but I didn't have a picture of this exact sumps drain holes.

Egon thanks for the explanation and the pics! Did you saw the sump desing i posted? Its a K1 moving bed filter with some other media matrix or bacteria house submerge... So just a a bulkhead hole with a elbow with a pipe with the normal water level in the same pump bafle?

I like to keep the water level in the pump return section as low as possible. Well the trick is to keep enough water for the pump to start back up again after a power outage. Yet not overflow the sump. #1 for me is not overflow the sump so that's why the water level is so low in my pump section of my sump.

I'm not 100% sure what your question is, sorry. I have two bulkhead holes. One is for a drain that goes to my trees outside and one is for the pump.

The "trickle" system is the key to the whole set up and very easy to use. I put in 1 gallon of water into my fish tank and the extra water flows down to my sump and goes out the drain. Every hour 1 gallon, every day 24 gallons and so on. No more water changes and my trees out side love the water!

I did a new desing for my sump it the same dimmensions as the last one but i added another chamber for another type of media. My only concern is the last part where the external pump and drip system drain would be, the concern is about the splashing and bubbles mist going to the display tank? What you think!?
