Hey guys, I am looking at getting a 450 gallon setup. The tank is glass and is 8 ft long. My floor is on joists above a crawl space. This thing is going to be close to 5,000 lbs. Is this a real option, or is my only option on my slab floor in my garage? Any ideas? Thanks.

Seek advice from a reputable builder.

Good idea...the guy I bought the house from built it and is a contractor. Duh! I should have thought of that. Anyone have a monster tank like this sitting inside above a crawl space?

No your floor is not designed to hold it. Check out the pic below. This would be a good idea for you.

this is what I did.

I"d run 2 rows of doubled up 2x12s across your joists and then a few lolly colums from the 2x12s to the floor. Is the crawl space concrete floor?

no

Then I would pour a few footings where the lolly colums will be placed. Its gonna be a little bit of work but this would ensure that the tank will not go anywhere

I would also call someone who really knows what they talking about, but other than some good suggestions people have made you also need to check for things like plumbing/utility notches in the joists, buckled joists, etc. All those things are going to affect the integrity of the floor and without actually seeing the space you want to put it even a structural engineer cant say for certain whether it is "ok"
