i think africans would be a great idea, if not go for smaller sa/ca like convicts, firemouths, blue acaras, this list goes on.

I agree with dreamsofprace. africans would probably be the best way to go. there are a lot of species of africans that don't get too big (4-5"), but have brilliant color. but being that we are in sa/ca forum, I'd recomend a JD and a couple of cons. females would be slightly smaller than the males of the species, and JD's are typically slow growing. just make sure there are hiding places and other decor.
