So after my disappointment in not getting my 135, my old man went and got me a 47 gallon until we get our new place.

But its a tall tank. Its nice, but I'm not sure it will work for cichlids. Especially none of the big species. I was thinking about getting a few rams and calling it good, but dont want them to all hang out on the bottom.

Would a small pair of say firemouths (or similar sized species) be okay in a tank this big?

Not sure if it matters but it has a 3d background and weeping moss growing inside it.

Sounds cool. A firemouth pair would would work so would saljicas, convicts, HRP, and several others... not all together, but there are smaller cichlids that would do fine in a 46 gallon. What is the footprint?

I thought about Angels, but unfortunantly, Ive never been a fan of them. Dont get me wrong, theyre nice fish, but just not for me. I had them before, tried a few different types but meh.

Hence wanting to see if a small pair of cichlids would be okay.

i would get either HRP,or sajicas.then a small schooler that would occupy the upper half.or do you have room for a 55? i know the big tank idea is out.people are always getting rid of 55's on CL cheap...

I feel that the tiny length of this tank makes it nearly impossible for anything other than bolivian rams or kribs. Perhaps the OP could look into a simple community or some killifish if bolivians aren't appealing
