48 Gal stocking suggestions?

GTs are nice to have but they can get pretty aggressive. Yeah, you should get some Geos. You can probably get 4 (max).

which kind would you suggest...i know they can grow to different sizes...i don't know the latin name but there has been someone on here that posts pics of the orange head ones and they are stunning!

Yeah, either Geophagus "Orange Head" or "Red Head" sp. Tapajos. They can grow to be about 6"-8" but it takes a few years.
 
how about angel fish and some geos and 1 severum. that would look cool.
 
consider gymnogeophagus. they are similar to geos but typically stay smaller, prefer cool water (can go heaterless) and would work good with the current fish you have. most stay under 6"
