Okay so here is the drawing hopefully it works haven't tried this yet. Just wanted to see what people thought on wether this would work with 1/2" cell cast acrylic. For the stand I would plan to support the whole bottom with plywood and a center brace along the connection between the two bottom pieces. Also for the top I was thinking a 2" strip along the inside with 3 to four strips along the middle. I am gonna go see if I can find the mechanical properties now for acrylic but was hoping for some input from somebody with acrylic experience. I can get the 1/2" for 100 bucks a sheet, but 3/4" goes up to 300 a sheet for 3/4" x 30" x 96" which is a little above my budget :(

Any info or helpful input would be greatly appreciated :headbang2

mmmmm totally forgot the pic in my first post if you could delete it that would be great

The tank is going to be 24 inches tall made with half inch acrylic. And it is going to be eight feet wide with the same half inch acrylic.:grinno:

Someone grab a video camera...I want to see it when it is filled for the first time. Do it in the living room...where is your sense of adventure.:naughty:

Seriously though, you didn't do your homework. If the proper materials are not in your budget, how do you expect to operate this thing? Fish food is not free, nor is equipment. Fish in this size tank will eat more food than you will. Are you prepared to spend $20+ per day on fish food? That is $140 per week. How about the power bills to run it? Sure mom and dad will pay for it...the first month. When they see what it adds to the bill, you will most certainly have the pleasure of paying for it.

Moral of the story: It is ok to dream big, just scale back on your dreams.

Didn't you do your homework? We arent talking with a kid who lives with his parents here.

damn chompers I am a 27 year old man who can afford it I just want to make sure it is not going to explode in my basement. I'm thinking I'll just put some stainless angle iron and frame it just to be on the safe side. If you have any real input though that woul be great. The reason I was talking about price is because it will cost me a 1/3 to make it out of half in and not 3/4. Seems like anybody would want to save 800 dollars when building a tank just common sense

I just measured my 300 (30" tall), and it's 1/2"

ok, sorry dude. There are way too many little dreamers here. I thought you were one of em. :nilly: Ya know, first job and not a care in the world except waiting for payday and how to spend it. The "not in the budget" statement had me going.
