480g Brainstorms

I have heard that the shimmer effect is created by having some turbulance at the water's surface. Is it possible that your 30"T has more movement at the surface than your 48"T tank?

I'm also thinking about getting these Beamworks LEDs. Looking forward to seeing pix of yours in operation. =)

Well, the 4' tall tank has an overflow box and benthic jets so the surface is turbulant. The one thing I have noticed form the beamworks being on the 30" tall tank is that it highlights every flaw in the acrylic.

kept fighting with one of my aros so i gave it to a good home its
sad it didnt get along with my favorite aro... was a real character.
hes in a in-door pond now so he must be happy lol

Im glad he ended up in a good spot. He nipped my aro's whiskers completely off!

ouch... he tortured my aro, would bite the tail and hang and nip him & etc. and this aro was pushing 21" too... lol

The stand looks awesome. That huge driftwood looks really nice too. Are you worried about tannins making your water dark with all that wood in there?

Thanks! Since this is a large scale project, soaking those giant pieces is going to be a challenge. Any ideas?

I had a lot of dw in my previous setup and with purigen and and uv, I never had tea-colored water problem. The initial soak will be the problem.

Also, these pieces are too huge to go in the tank as they are. I am going to carve and trim them, then dry fit them in the tank.

Maybe i should set the tank up outside first, and soak the dw in the tank...

I'm going to have to give Purigen a try. I saw pix of some of your tank(s) and the water looked perfectly clear despite quite a bit of DW. My water has a slight brownish tint that annoys me. How much purigen do you plan to use on your 480G?

LOL I was just going to say put them in the pool!!!!!! During the winter here in Phoenix the bottom of my pool is filled with DW. Same page! Too bad about the Kings ;)

lol- I had two huge pieces soaking for about 2 months and they were still slightly bouyant when it was time to put them in the tank. Another option would be one of those huge 96 gallon garbage bins. We get a 96G bin for yard (green) waste from the city which might be big enough for some of those pieces.

On another note, I was just in Phoenix for work. I would have loved to have checked out your tanks, but I totally forgot you were in PHX. Not a Kings fan...unfortunately, the Golden State Warriors are my team. =/
