49 Foot Retic

Wow...I'm actually in disbelief that some herpers here believed it.
As coura said, this 'news' is years old. And when the snake was properly measured, the zoo keeper had no idea how his snake had suddenly shrunk a good twenty feet or so..
It's always hard to tell exactly how large a snake is from pics or vids..as snakes don't lay completely stretched out..one of mine looks under three foot long..but is actually four and a half feet long.

Nonetheless. stories like this are complete bollox. It would be nice to have a 'fifty foot python' maybe, but the reality is very different. The guiness book of records would certainly know about it anyway. Does this remind anyone else of the picture that was floating around emails of the great white shark 'attacking' a hovering 'copter? You know, the one everyone thought was real despite the claims it was taken in South Africa..yet a famous USA bridge was right behind the 'copter?

yeah, after finishing the movie i don't think that thing is as big as they claim. the pic makes it loo that big though cause of the angle. i doubt there's any snake alive thats 50 feet.

I guess your right, they only said this one was 49 feet. :grinno: That thing is huge either way, I hate seeing it in that cage!

:nilly:This is over 5 years old and been proven to be a far from actual length, I'm sure a little research would show this.

I believe she's just on loan to the zoo, but she's been there over a year so far.

Actually, I just looked it up. She was supposed to go back to Bob Clark about a year ago, but the shipping company he arranged the transport with went under. He couldn't find another company to ship her, and after a few months of trying to persuade him, he let the zoo keep her for $35,000. They said that makes her by far the most expensive snake they've ever bought.
