Hey guys after looking through my father's old cichlid photos I've decided to follow suit and start my own tank. Some members may remember his profile here (greenterra) from years ago and know his fish. Ive bought a 2nd hand 4x2x2 tank and wanted to get opinions on the fish I've picked and whether I could add another for now since they're all juveniles.

I've currently got a jack dempsey, tiger oscar, green terror and 4 bristlenose. Will these all be alright for a while in that size tank until I upgrade the size?

Any info is much appreciated!

Hey there: thats a healthy sized tank I wouldn’t stress much over it for the time being, what happened to him? Sorry to be nosey on here when it comes to other members

That's OK, some health issues forced him to quit fishkeeping, he passed away a few years back now. I spent hours with him watching this forum so i thought If I were to go anywhere for info it should be here.

Agree with Rocksor
Your tank is fully stocked as it is, and when those fish are full grown adult size, I would consider it to be almost overstocked.
Left to their own devices, they may come to a territorial sort of detente, although in nature, each cichlid would normally hold the area of the entire tank (and more) as it own, alone
As adults the JD will hit @ 10", GT 10-12", Oscar 12-15", Pleco's 5+".

I remember your father well. Sorry to hear of his passing. The stock that you have now should be fine but I wouldn't add anything else.

I had 3-4” giant danios gobbled up by oscars in about 2-3 years of living with them, so I would imagine the Oscar would do the same to buenos aires tetras
