5,000 gallons for Catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For a pond that size, assuming you have adequate filtration, I'd say 10-12 adult Channels. They get VERY large when full grown. I know a few people here have seen 42" fish and I can safely say I've seen fish close to if not larger than 48" while diving in quarries in Ohio, looked like they could eat a diver!

Were you doing work w/ F/G Commission or just training?

Just diving for fun and to take videos over in Ohio, although I will be doing some invertebrate research in PA this summer (fingers crossed for new species!). I have at least one fish over 42-44" on video from a deep, cold NW OH quarry but iPhones won't let you open YouTube on the internet so when I get the computer out later I'll post a link for you.

no way man, my natives don't get a heater.

78° is about what the Allegheny is in the summer anyway LOL. But I'll agree with you that natives like room temp better, my darters especially hate when summer temperatures roll around :).

ya my darter tank hits around 60 in the summer, but its way cooler than the stream they came from in the summer that's for sure.

Is not size deceiving under water, as in things appear larger than they are, no?

NW Ohio? Wait a sec, I think I know you Dive! Weren't you that little diving-obsessed kid sneaking around Portage quarry in Bowling Green OH back in 1998-1999? I went to BGSU 1995-2000 and I was a quarry bum in the summers of 1998-1999.

That quarry is 75' deep and was famous for diving and certification, etc. VERY famous! It features sunken planes, trains, and automobiles as well as a school bus, a semi trailer, and a 65' sunken silo.

Where you at Sean? It's a nice day out, only expecting 5-8" of snow, you should be out diving LOLOL

Little guy is getting there.....probably around 8" at this point.... still doing about 1"-1.5" per month. I know the growth spurt is coming.....won't be much longer now, he's pushing at least 6 months old by now.
