5.5 Gallon can this be done?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree tank is really small. I'm gonna add more plants as I want it to be heavily planted then just add the 4-5 rummy noses or 3 rummy and 3 of something else. We'll see. The tank is "over filtered" as the fluval1 plus is good for a 12G tank haha.

Here's a slightly different idea:

Look into pygmy sunfish (Elassoma species). You could keep a whole little colony of them in there. Add least livebearers (Heterandria formosa), pygmy killifish (Leptolucania ommata), swamp darters (Etheostoma formosa), freshwater ghost shrimp (Palaemonetes paludosus or P. kadakiensis), and some physid and planorbid snails for a sweet little mini-southeastern US biotope. Good and biotopically appropriate plants include Echinodorus tenellus, Eleocharis acicularis, Najas guadalupensis, Bacopa caroliniana, Azolla caroliniana, etc.

Swamp darters are common contaminants in ghost shrimp deliveries; you'll probably have to order the rest of the fish online. I can point you to some vendors if you're interested.

I would like to see some pictures :)

It looks pretty wack right now. It has normal rock gravel, banana plants, and anubias, gonna add some baby tears some time this week. It's still cycling but now the water is cloudy, is this normal for small tanks? I haven't cycled a tank in awhile lol. Always just seeded the big filters but I'm pretty sure you can put a ac110 on a 5.5

Cool thanks bro and thanks for the suggestion on the stocking. Are those fish gonna cost me a lot? I've never kept natives before so I wouldn't know and I'm honestly not trying to invest too much into this tank right now since I just spent money on another canister last week :X.

They shouldn't be too expensive. Zimmerman's has dwarf crays, which would be a good addition, and usually has banded pygmy sunfish but seems to be currently out of those. Sachs' has all the other species I mentioned. His prices for single fish are a bit steep, but you can get a better deal if you buy in lots of 3 or 4.

post your updates someday ok? :)
