I'm glad everything went great while you were gone. I have a warning for those who have a "neighbor" come in! Even with PRE-MEASURED servings, some of these people totally over estimate the amount of food a fish needs! Make sure to tell them to feed sparingly.
I also had a backup person (I was gone 2 weeks), but somehow the two feeders for my birds and fish got their wires crossed. My bird feeder looked like she hadn't come in 2 days when I got home, and my fish feeder and bird feeder both fed too much food to the fish - waaay too much. My instructions even said it's better to miss a day of feeding than feed too much.
After an exhausting trip, doing two 80% water changes immediately upon arrival is NOT fun. Blocks may not be the answer to some, but if I ever go again, I'm using an automatic feeder and/or block and just have someone come check to see the equipment is safe and running only. Fish are more likely to survive a lack of food than what these guys did.
