Chocolates and Redhead Sevs are definitely on my short list. Haven't looked too much at the acaras...but now that you mention it, yellow acaras are pretty gorgeous fish. Definitely something to think about.

Anyone think a pair of uaru would work?

I'm heavily leaning toward ordering a juvie group of Heros Notatus (spotted severum.) What does everyone think of that?

i had those a few years back(i think) the mouth brooders? i liked the ones i had,worked with the blue acara and a chocolate.i found an old pic,not so good but you can get an idea

These are separate from severus and efasciatus but from everything I can tell, they act about the same. They just have a lot more "spots." Here's a pic from google.

Virgil's spotted sev looks nice but I do like the idea of Uaru!

I think a nice severum would be a good fit. Uaru do better in groups rather than pairs, and overall, your tank will be pretty well stocked if you have a pair of centrarchus and a pair (or pairs) of the rainbows.

Centrarchus are probably my favorite Central American cichlids, very underrated in the hobby. Glad you are giving them a shot.

they are a little smaller ..but mostly just less aggressive .. ,I don't really know why .. but they sure are pretty

Cool, thanks for the help everyone! I've placed a bid on some Heros notatus, so hopefully I'll win them. If not, I'll go with another set of severum since I find them all attractive.
