5 gallon tank ideas

For a dirt tank, get some cheap potting soil that has no fertilizers in it. Lay down maybe 1/2 inch layer or less in your tank then cap it with 1/2 inch or more of sand. After that your basically good to go.

If you go the shrimp route don't mix ghost shrimps with cherries. Ghost shrimps will tear them up.

I agree bettas are pretty active fish. They need warm temps though to thrive. Like 82F and up. I recommend bettas in at least 10 gallon tanks. They still need their swimming room too.

Tanganyikan shell dwellers-very interesting fish. Might be a little hard in a 5 gallon though.

5lbs of live rock and a skunk shrimp. Have one on my girlfriends nightstand now it's actually a cool little tank.

Betta biotope ... make it tea stained water with some live plants with floating and toss a female and male in and its bubble nest time.
