Echo the lack of spangling on the dorsal and tail point to female but did anyone notice the big tube in the last pic?

here is a good pic of a large pair not in breeding colors

I'm curious why you state this pair is not in breeding colors. The male looks like he wants to breed imo. They get the stripes and black dorsal when they're in the mood.

LOL - on the tube, didn't notice it til' pointed you mentiond it. And ya that pic of the 2 Festae is definately the breeding colors of a male. Maroon is their norm.

oh ok guess i was wrong then as you can tell im not super experienced with these guys and yeah now you mention it there is def a tube coming out in that pic, n i thought this wasnt their breeding colors because whenever iv seen the male breeding was when he went to his all gold coloring and the female was extremely bright red

Guys, sorry I forgot to mention - thats not a breeding tube in the last pic, its poo... I took pics right after I fed her to get the best colors. So Balton is leaning toward female....

I have to admit, ever since day one I've been leaning toward female as well, albeit with not scientific evidence or proof to back me up, just a gut feeling. Thanks for everyone's input so far.

LMAO thats classic but yeah more experienced people are leaning towards female so i would have to agree with them especially if "she" does not have any blue spangling

That is 100% female. all the way. find a nice male for her and she'll color up almost instantly. Nice festae:)

do something to make that festae happy, colors are not so good.

I would have to say female, not enough blue spangles and nice black through the dorsal.
