Anybody got info and pics of them ? Thanks much !

The 5 spot jewel aka 5 star general (Hemichromis elongatus) is a mean nasty medium sized Cichlid. Males will reach around 7" and females a little smaller. Very similar in aggression to Istlanum or Salvini Cichlids and they can be quite predatory. Jeff Rapps has a picture of a pair http://tangledupincichlids.com/images/elongatus.pair.jpg heres a link to google images as well http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&um=1&hl=en&q=hemichromis+elongatus Another Cichlid you may like is Hemichromis fasciatus it is like the 5 spot but on steroids.

You gonna pick any up? A fish shop I go to had one like 4" for $25 and I had to give my wallet to my freind or I would have came home with it.

One of the fish I wanted to look into for sure, I have a new tank cycling. Been looking at EBJD's, lots of people have been mentioning the 5 spot, Was also thinking of another african community tank.

Great fish a determined killer when they want. They have a strong jaw & solid frame so watch what tankmates you put them with. Not many african can go in with them. I uually put them with CA. cichlids.

Here are some pics of my H. elongatus

The newly hatched fry were collected and securely placed at one corner of the tank. They are there somewhere:)

whats the difference between the Hemichromis elongatus and Hemichromis fasciatus , they seem like the same fish to me

Yep very similar indeed but H. fasciatus grows I believe up to 16 inches...

H. frempongi also is very similar... but a lot more red
