Hello Everyone IM planning to construct a concrete tank and would like to ask what is the maximum length for a 1/2 tempered glass I'm planning for a
6ft x 4ft viewing pane can i go longer about 8 ft? or is 6feet is the maximum?

If im Going to do 8-10 feet with 4 feet height what glass thickness would you recommend for tempered?

For the 4' height I wouldn't go any less than 3/4".

So even tempered 1/2 can't handle the 4 feet height? its hard to look for thicker than 1/2 here so 1/2 might be the only available glass to me? Thanks for the reply Dan

Hello Ocean,

Thanks for the reply.
I am from the Philippines so shipping here might not be an option :)
So if I'm going acrylic for a 4 foot tall 2 inch would be my thickness?
How long can i go if i go Acrylic for a 4 foot 2 inches might check on the suppliers here?

Wowie

I wouldn't go any less than 1" for 4' height on a glass pane.

I would say 96" x 48" for 2" thick acrylic, but you might be able to get away with a little more length.

Thanks Pharaoh For the reply might check on the prices still. Im hoping i could get away with tempered glass, I think 1inch glass plate are not available here also the cost might be very high if ever it is but will check up also on suppliers here.

I did at one time ask several companies in the US and kind of found at the 8 foot by 4 foot high sheet that is two inches thick is kind of the limit of what most of us fish keepers could afford in that a six foot tall by ten foot wide sheet that is three and a half inches thick goes for $15,000 to $22,000 US.

Hello Ocean That made my Mouth Drop Wow :) my budget for the tank is way less than that, Way less! again the price is like wow. Might go tempered glass instead i have seen a 100" x 42" viewing 1/2 tempered glass for a Malawi setup might do something like his. And somebody here in the Philippines has a 2000 plus gallon with a 6' x 4' viewing pane with the 1/2 tempered im still a little confused though.

The difference between tempered and plate would really be negligible. I advise sticking with the 1" be it plate or tempered.
