.5 Tempered for a 8' x 4' window?

Thanks Pharoah thats what I'm thinking actually, So the Glass can be longer but I have to check up on the costs first and the availability. I think the Thickest we have here is 19mm or .75 I think but I have to have it Shipped from Another place. Suppliers here has the max thickness of 12mm or .5. So thats one of my problems either sourcing out and installing the glass myself or stick with the 1/2.

If Ever i can find a 1inch thick can i go lets say 10 feet length?

The thickness is a combination of height and length. You would have to specifically calculate for a different combination. The 4' height is what is really driving the 1" requirement, but both measurements play into the calculation.
 
Hello Everyone I have a question again, in Calculating the safety factor in the glass thickness do i have to input only the actual viewing area or do i need to factor in including the one attached to the sides the 2 - 3 inches that is siliconed?
If lets say the actual window is 39 but water level is 40 what would i enter in the calculator the exposed glass of 39" or the actual water level which is 40?
 
You would use the viewing area or calculation.
 
Hey, I built a 450 gallon plywood aquarium, and it measures 8'x3'x3'. The viewing window is 8'x3'. I would say that if you pushed it down to 3'6" then you could do .5 tempered ONLY. Tempered glass is MUCH stronger than plate glass, by more than triple. And good luck, and post some pics when your done
