Because 96x36x30 is an outside measurement and we usually don't fill our tanks from the out side. If you add the 1.25" thickness it takes away 2.5" from the length width and height, so you inside dems would be 93.5x33.5x27.5=86136.875/231= 372.8 gallons I was off 12 gallons

I understand now but the industry standards do not measure it that way. Maybe they should since my 720 after adding my tank up and not filling it to the top just became a 500 gallon.
