Im going to go look at a used 500g acrylic tank. now i know acrylic is different than glass in that it is "welded" instead of silicone which can dry and rot. so what should i check for when i go look at it? the obvious stuff like major scratches and spider cracks, any type of bowing, but is there more i should look for? i just watched the video of a 1500g popping and i dont want this to happen to me. any advice is greatly appreciated!

thanks anyone else know what im looking for? how old is an old acrylic tank? what are good brands and what are bad ones?

I too am very interested in hearing more about this. I'm going to have to get an acrylic tank of at minimum 300 gallons (looking into closer to 500 though), and need to learn more about reputable manufacturers.

Dimensions and thickness play a huge role on tank durability. Got the stats? Also check for bowing....

im going to go look at it maybe thursday. we are getting quite a snowstorm in new england so hopefully thursday i will check it out.

Hey your from NH were? Im in Manchester. I take it you saw my 1500 gallon thread?

ya i saw that thread and im in stratham. any good stores im missing out near manch?

ok i saw it, heres the deal, tank is roughly 8 years old, minor surface scratching, atleast 3/4" all over and dimensions are 8x4x2. the tank hasnt been full for 3 yrs and looks to be in decent shape. across the top bracing there was something resting on it which looks like it caused it to bow a little maybe 1/2 inch. does this sound OK or will it be a potential disaster? any part of this make it sound like a good buy or bad buy? it would be my first acrylic tank so im nervous.
