how much you can pm me if you dont want to say it one here if its a good deal i would go for it

For that footprint I would take the risk, especially if the price was good

no worries at all at those dimensions and the thickness of the acrylic. i've been in this hobby for 10+ years and have not had one acrylic tank bust a seam...but i've had a couple glass tanks at 240+ gallons bust a seam. one of the tanks was 6 months old, the other was 2 years old.

it will be fine. just buy it and enjoy it and stop worrying so much. acrylic tanks don't have a reputation for being damn near bullet proof because they're breaking on a regular basis.

If it is a tank manufactured by a company that makes tanks, it will be better. Some tanks are home made by beginners and you don't want to buy someone else's problem. Even manufactured tank will have problems as they age and get mishandled. Most manufactured tank are flame polished. The flaming process weaken the acrylic and eventually you get this white thing in between the joints and stress fractures. That white thing is a separation of the joint. That is not good. It may not fail until a long time but I would not feel comfortable with that. You can repair it by laying the tank with the bad seam facing up and add the solvent to reseal it. It will fill the separation. The seam will be still white but will look not as white. But, don't get extra solvent on the tank surface. It will create more stress fractures with the solvent once it contacts any surface that been flamed polished. Good Luck.

I too am very interested in hearing more about this. I'm going to have to get an acrylic tank of at minimum 300 gallons (looking into closer to 500 though), and need to learn more about reputable manufacturers.

thanks anyone else know what im looking for? how old is an old acrylic tank? what are good brands and what are bad ones?

Tenecor is probably top of the line when it comes to acrylic tanks. When it comes to acrylic if I had the choice, thats who I would go with. Glasscages.com is one of those I would avoid. I have heard more bad than good in quality and all around customer service with those guys. Some people have had good luck with them. But ive heard stories of tanks cracking just sitting on the floor empty.
